Do you know what’s a handy thing to have when you’re making a film about a musician? Permission to use the music of said musician in the film.
Unfortunately no one told the people behind the new Jimmy Hendrix biopic about this and as a result, the estate of Jimi Hendrix is now insisting that no original music can be used in the movie about the guitarist’s life.
Uh-oh…
The Irish Independent reports that estate of Jimi Hendrix has already spoken out against the film and has stated that no music can be used without their approval.
Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company which is the administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalogue, has said in the past that no films can use any original music or copyrights created by Hendrix without its full permission.
Well…that majorly throws a spanner in the works then doesn’t it?
Filming for the biopic All Is By My Side is expected to begin in Ireland within the next three weeks, although given the above statement from Hendrix’s family, eh…it’s sort of unclear if it will actually happen now.
At present, the Hendrix movie, which will star rapper Andre 3,000 (of Outkast fame), is in pre-production at Admore Studios in county Wicklow.
According to reports, the full promotional details of All Is By My Side will be revealed at the upcoming Cannes film festival.
Although you can’t have a film about Jimi Hendrix without any of his music, so it’ll be interesting to see if the project will still go ahead…
