Universal could have two different Bourne franchises on their hands. Cha-ching!

JOE are massive fans of the original Bourne trilogy featuring Matt Damon, while the Jeremy Renner-starring Bourne Legacy was OK but forgettable.

We are now absolutely delighted to see that the duo behind the Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum look set to reunite for the next chapter in David Webb’s life… that alias isn’t quite as well known as Jason Bourne, is it?

Deadline have reported that the duo, who were always coy about working again on another instalment of Robert Ludlum’s best-selling series, are being pursued (Bourne style) by Universal, who already have a a July 16 2016 release slot scheduled.

We loved the Doug Liman-directed Bourne Identity that brilliantly established the series’ dynamics, but there is no denying that the films featuring Greengrass behind the camera upped the action and tension. Sources are now saying that both director and star have changed their minds about returning to the spy saga.

Damon’s three Bourne movies, which began in 2002 and ended in 2007, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Wow. Here’s hoping the duo weren’t double crossed, attacked or chased through the world in order to change their mind.

So where does this leave the Jeremy Renner spin-off series that started with the Bourne Legacy? Apparently a sequel to that is also being developed with Fast & Furious director Justin Lin attached to direct.

The muddled Legacy featured Renner as one of several genetically-altered assassins, all of whom are targeted for death. Lin is currently tied up with directing duties on the second season of the HBO series True Detective, hence Universal acting quickly to re-unite Damon and Greengrass.

So folks, what do you make of this news?

Expect to hear a lot more of this song being played in your local cinema. Bourne again, anyone?
