Looper director Rian Johnson will both write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII, Buzzfeed have confirmed.
Johnson has not signed up to direct the final film in the series – Episode IX – but he will write the treatment for that installment.
Instead, Johnson will take over the franchise from JJ Abrams, who is currently shooting Episode VII, for the penultimate outing.
As well as Looper and Brick, Johnson is also known for directing several episodes of ‘Breaking Bad’ including the seminal, third-from-last episode, ‘Ozymandias.’
