We have a feeling that this might make a fair bit of money…

The summer blockbuster season is officially over, with the explosions and crashes recently heard in your local cinema soon to be replaced by the Oscar-baiting sounds of monologues and crying. So much crying.

While we welcome the opportunity to get our cinematic teeth stuck into some serious dramas, we can’t help but look further ahead to next summer’s blockbusters and one film stands head and Hulk-sized shoulders above the rest.

Joss Whedon has just finished principal photography on Avengers: Age of Ultron and the official plot synopsis have just been released.

Note: The following plot details must be read in your best “dramatic voice over trailer-man” tone. Here goes…

“When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.”

We already brought you a glimpse of the new baddie Ultron and it’s a good thing that all of the original cast members are returning because he looks like a right handful.

Iron Man, Thor, Mr Hulk et al will also be introduced to two new mysterious and powerful newcomers.

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will be played by Elizabeth Olsen, while Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver will be portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The original Avengers Assemble was a blast because Joss Whedon effortlessly managed to balance some incredible action sequences with brilliant character development. Audiences around the world also shared JOE’s love of the first film; sure didn’t it only make a gillion, jillion bazillion at the box-office.
