Movie Wrap: P.T Anderson’s new film has a great trailer, Zombieland 2, Clerks III, X-Men deleted scene and more

To quote Randal from Clerks, “I don’t watch movies.”

Well, well, well. It seems that today has been quite a busy one in Hollywoodland as actors, directors and studios seem to be taking a break from counting their money and living a lavish lifestyle working hard to bring us some interesting movie news.

P.T Anderson , or Paul Thomas to his parents, is one of our favourite directors, and the trailer for his new film Inherent Vice looks absolutely superb and bonkers.

The new film from the Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood director, features a superb cast with Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro and Jena Malone all starring.

The trailer seems like a crazy mix of American Hustle with The Big Lebowski and it certainly looks like the director’s funniest film to date.

So what it’s about then? Well, “when private eye Doc Sportello’s (Joaquin Phoenix) ex-old lady suddenly, out of nowhere, shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin… well, easy for her to say.”

Surfers, hustlers, dopers, smokers, rockers, tax dodgers, dentists, murderous loan sharks, LAPD Detectives, saxophone players, criminal gangs and dentists are all involved.

From the ridiculous to the ridiculously brilliant now, and one of our favourite films of all time is Kevin Smith’s 1994 era-defining, slacker epic Clerks.

There are certain films that viewers can instantly relate to and Clerks is definitely one of those films. Before JOE (me) started working on this magnificent website of ours, we actually worked in our local video shop and the amount of stuff that actually happened in real life when compared to the movie is scarily similar.

We loved the sequel also, especially the Star Wars vs Lord of the Rings debate and, with Smith’s new horror film Tusk doing well in the US right now, it seems that the final part of the Quick Stop trilogy will be made.

Smith revealed the good news on his latest podcast saying, “Tusk was the absolute bridge to Clerks III”, and that “because of Tusk, I got my financing for Clerks III.”

We wonder if Dante is not even supposed to be here today the next time around.

It seems that every single Zombie angle on film has been covered at this stage — apart from Zombies terrorising a ceili in Leitrim (that sounds like an awesome film) — but we’re happy to see that a sequel to Zombieland will be going ahead with the original director on board.

Ruben Fleischer is back to direct although the original writers won’t be returning this time around as they’ve been replaced by The Expendables scribe Dave Callaham. We presume his approach to writing about zombies will involve peaceful co-existence and not guns, guns and more guns.

There is no word on whether the original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone or Abigail Breslin will return, although we wouldn’t mind seeing another cameo from Bill Murray. Bring him back as a zombie. Logic be damned… we want Bill!

For a long period of the summer, we thought that the magnificent X-Men: Days of Future Past would be our favourite summer blockbuster… and then Guardians of the Galaxy arrived.

Bryan Singer’s return to the X-Men universe was superb, that scene with Quicksilver was worth the admission fee alone, and it seems that the DVD has some more goodies in store.
