Pic: Have a look at Ian McKellen in the new older take on Sherlock Holmes

“There is nothing like first-hand evidence.”

A few days ago, JOE brought you the happy news that there will be further episodes of Sherlock, however, Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. aren’t the only men that will be wearing the famous Deerstalker.

Ian McKellen has tweeted the first image of him, as a 93-year-old version of the detective, from his upcoming take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character, Mr Holmes.

This story will be dealing with the slow deterioration of the detectives brilliant mental powers. The book takes place in 1947 when Holmes is 93, retired and frustrated by his diminishing powers of recollection.

The story takes Holmes to post-war Japan where he encounters the son of a former British diplomat that had mysteriously disappeared before the war. Holmes doesn’t remember the man but he feels the familiar pull of a final unfinished case.

McKellen has worked with fellow Sherlock Holmes actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir Christopher Lee in The Lord of the Rings film series and JOE is excited for this one. We are big fans of his work and think that a different take on Holmes can only be a good thing.

Also, any excuse to show this photo again is very welcome.
