Hercules is the go-to guy for strength and muscles, so its only natural that Dwayne Johnson would take the role.
Paramount Pictures has picked Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, to play the legendary beast of a man in a new movie version of Hercules. The movie is set for release in Autumn 2014 and will be an adaptation of the graphic novel ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’, made by Radical Studios in 2008. And there is room for a franchise if the movie is a success; the graphic novel has a sequel – ‘The Knives of Kush.’
Rush Hour director Brett Ratner is on board working from a script by Ryan Condal, a relative newcomer in the screenwriting game. Production is due to start very soon. Hercules was first brought to the screen in the 50’s and 60’s and has been played by other famous muscle man Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1970’s. An animated version was released in 1997, with Hercules voiced by Tate Donovan.
Dwayne Johnson has a busy year ahead of him; he is in G.I. Joe Retaliation with Bruce Willis, out in March, and Pain and Gain with Mark Wahlberg in May.
