Old Leatherface is back with his chainsaw, and this time he’s in 3D.
by Genna Patterson
With seven movies in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, grossing $203 million, no wonder another one is set for release on January 4th in Ireland.
The latest installment picks up where the 1974 original film ends. The townspeople of Newt, Texas decide to burn down the farmhouse of the Sawyer family for their role in aiding Jeb Sawyer, also known as Leatherface, in countless murders.
The entire family is presumed dead with the exception of an infant, Heather, who is placed with an adoptive family.
Fast-forward twenty years and Heather discovers she is adopted (er, Halloween anyone?). A lawyer informs her that her long lost grandmother has left her an inheritance.
Cue Heather and her inexplicably attractive friends driving to Texas to collect said inheritance and instead meeting her cousin Leatherface and his friendly chainsaw.
Reportedly, the movie was meant for a timely Halloween release but it wasn’t ready. Instead its release has been moved to January, the least scary, but probably most depressing time of year after the festive season. Maybe it will scare the post Christmas blues away.
