Burglar "butchered" artist's fingers with machete

03/03/2011 9:31 am

A man will be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in July for a burglary in which he cut off several of a woman’s fingers “like a butcher”.

Jame Kenny, 35, broke into the victim’s apartment, tied her up and gagged her. She was stabbed numerous times in the neck, abdomen and chest and slashed across the face.

Two of her fingers had been amputated at the joints and another was partially amputated. Doctors managed to reattach one finger.

Kenny, from Eden Block, Prospect Hill, Finglas, Dublin, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary with a knife and machete, and to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to the woman on September 2nd, 2009.

The woman, an artist, has been left impeded after the attack. She can longer hold a pen.

The court heard that Kenny had a number of other convictions, including one for a serious assault in which he tied up and repeatedly stabbed two people in their home during a burglary. He received four years for the crime.
