If you're planning to leave the country next Monday sorry to break bad news
If you’re planning on jetting off next Monday you may be in a spot off bother as SIPTU members working at Dublin, Shannon and Cork have decided to ahead with industrial action.
JOE wouldn’t blame you for wanting to escape the winter blues that are beginning to set in due to the longer evenings but if you were planning on taking off next Monday, your plans may be scuppered due to impending industrial action announced by SIPTU today.
In a press release SIPTU said they were taking the action “following the failure of the two companies (the DAA and Aer Lingus) to put forward any meaningful proposals to resolve the dispute over their underfunded pension schemes.”
The DAA is seeking an injunction against the planned work stoppages but that won’t be heard until Friday.
The DAA has also promised to alert passengers in relation to their contingency plans in the next few days, but said in a statement of their own that it is “not currently in a position to accurately gauge the impact of any planned dispute.”
Basically it means that it is squeaky bum time for people planning flights out of the country next week until things become clearer.
