Irishman fined for booting Aussie politician up the arse

25/09/2012 10:46 am

An eejit who drunkenly kicked an Aussie politician on a dare was convicted of aggravated assault yesterday and ordered to pay a $2,200 fine or go to jail.

The Darwin Magistrates Court heard how 24 year-old Darren Hearty kicked the current Attorney General John Elferink  after being dared to so in a pub.

The attack happened at a press conference in the lead-up to an election last month and Hearty evaded arrest before turning himself in a few days later and the incident was reported on with an a accompanying video of the incident right here on JOE.

Hearty accepted a bet of $200 and has now wound paying ten times that, making him look a bit of an ass himself. He now has a month to cough the cash up or face jail time.

Hearty said he was sorry for what he called a “stupid, drunk, prank.”

The course did highlight one serious issue as presiding Magistrate Greg Cavanagh said that the high number of Irish tradesmen coming before court for drunk misbehaviour is getting to be beyond a joke.

The only pity about this is that there are a few politicians in this country that need a boot up the hoop.
