At a time when Premier League football clubs are being accused of losing touch with their fan base, it is refreshing to see Liverpool’s gesture of support yesterday.

A report in today’s Irish Independent highlighted how the Merseyside club offered their condolences to the family of Liverpool fanatic Graham O’Connell, who will be buried today after tragically collapsing after playing football with his friends on Monday evening.

The 14 year-old was a huge Reds supporter and was optimistic about the coming season with Brendan Rodgers at the helm.

The club tweeted a message of support to the family, and a spokesperson told the paper that Rodgers himself will be making contact.

"If Graham's family wanted to come to Anfield they would of course be welcomed and we would look after them," the spokesperson said.

"We are in the process of obtaining contact details for the family and Brendan will be writing to them in due course. Our condolences go out to them at such a sad time."

We applaud the gesture made by Liverpool who are offering support to a family in a most difficult time.
