Polish waitress 'Magda' Pole-axed - not really a freeloader
It seems the Polish woman attracting the anger of the entire nation today for living the high life on the dole isn't quite the beach-going freeloader she first appeared to be.
The Irish Independent reported this morning that the woman claimed to love living off the State in Ireland in her 'Hawaiian massage' Donegal home. The story has been trending in Ireland since then. But, it seems many of her quotes are taken out of context and some aren't even her words at all.
Magda, as she was dubbed, has been on the dole for two years, but says she doesn't want to be on social welfare benefits and intends to start her own massage business.
"Do I have a problem with being on the welfare? Yes. I don't want to live off the state, I treat it as help that will help me start my own business," Magda said.
The 'Hawaiian massage' reference was actually the woman talking about the FÁS qualification she trained for. She also said she was not proud of being on the dole, but said she hadn't met with any bad reaction. She said fairly frankly: "maybe it's because a lot of Irish people are also on the welfare. My friend once told me that she prefers her taxes going towards me than some a**hole from Dublin."
It turns out Magda didn't even called her adopted hometown in Donegal a 'sh*thole'. In fact, that was the author saying that some people like Donegal, like Magda, and some thought it was awful.
Looks like Magda's been well and truly stitched up.

'Donegal is a shithole to some'

Use Google translate. She says, How do I live? Wonderfully. I develop to breathe. I get an allowance - 188 euros per week plus 59 on the flat. In winter, plus 20 for fuel. Exits 267 euros per week. Without madness, but the quiet life enough. A rough translation, yet this is the image she portrays of Ireland, it's wonderful being on the Irish dole. She goes on to say that half of Donegal people have left and the other half are sitting on their asses on social welfare. I don't know about anyone else but I think we are way too soft on foreigners who live off the Irish state. They really are making a laugh of us, and we sympathise with them!
