Snow to hit Ireland within hours
Yet another bout of snowy weather will hit Ireland within a matter of hours, Met Eireann has reported.
Much of the UK is already under several inches of snow.
Met Eireann says outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will spread into the south of the country before the end of the day while snow will fall inland in parts of Munster and Leinster, mostly on higher ground.
Highest temperatures today will be limited to between 1 and 3 degrees but reaching 4 or 5 degrees along the east and south coast.
Tonight
Further snow is expected to develop as the rain eases tonight, and will affect parts of the country from the southwest through the midlands to areas of east Ulster.
It will be another bitterly cold night with lowest temperatures of 0 to -6 degrees Celsius and a severe frost developing as well as icy patches on untreated roads.
Saturday will be a cold day with a mix of bright spells and scattered wintry showers. Some of the showers will be of hail and snow, most likely on higher ground. Cold with highest temperatures of only 2 to 6 degrees in fresh southwesterly winds.
