Video: Willie O'Dea makes his acting debut in Limerick
Former Defence Minister Willie O'Dea has given his support to a Limerick filmmaker by making a cameo in a new short film. And this time it's not a man in a mask, it really is him.
The moustachioed TD has a history of getting involved in Limerick-linked social media projects, most famously as a character in the Rubberbandits' Ode to Willie O'Dea.
Proving he doesn't take himself too seriously, he even willingly took the flak of Joe Duffy's sour and moany Liveline callers in defence of the Bandits' Christmas single Horse Outside.
But where the Rubberbandits have featured a man in a mask posing as Willie, in a new clip posted on YouTube the man himself takes part.
He plays himself, so not too much of a stretch.
The clip is taken from The Outlaw Concy Ryan, one of the entries for this year's StoryLand competition on RTÉ - the competition responsible for putting the Hardy Bucks into the spotlight.
You can check out the clip below and you can take a look at all the remaining StoryLand entrants at rte.ie/storyland. Willie gives it a good go, but he probably shouldn't give up the day job.
Having said that, his day job is as a Fianna Fáil TD...
Where did you get that from?
The rubber bandits wrote a song taking the piss out of him after he was forced to resign as minister of Defence over that High Court evidence business & the tape recorder.
Hardly a case of O'Dea taking part in social media projects
Willie was on the wireless doing his bit for the Rubberbandits during that famous Liveline interview. That was "getting involved in a Limerick-linked social media project", surely?
The Rubberbandits were asked about Willie O'Dea's support a while back.

Question:
I listened with glee to your verbal sparring session with various callers on the Joe Duffy show last December. How unlikely an ally was Willie O'Dea, and have you heard anything from him since?
Answer:
He's a politician, a clever one at that. He would ally himself with Mussolini if it meant a few votes.
