14/10/2012 11:24 am
A huge survey of 16,000 people has named Westport as Ireland’s favourite town.
The survey was conducted by Retail Excellence Ireland, as the Mayo town narrowly beat Killarney to top spot.
The survey was to find Ireland's top 100 towns and cities to shop and visit and the full results are published in a supplement in today's Sunday Independent.
Each of the 25 top towns scored highly on safety, security and family friendliness.
The top 25 are:
- Westport
- Killarney
- Swords
- Ashbourne
- Dungarvan
- Carrickmacross
- Clonakilty
- Malahide
- Skerries
- Listowel
- Kilkenny City
- Castleknock
- Tramore
- Galway City
- Tullamore
- Wexford
- Ratoath
- Carrick-on-Shannon
- Cobh
- Kinsale
- Monaghan
- Middleton
- Cork City
- Letterkenny
- Carlow
Picturesque Westport is already one of Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations and at least this means Mayo wins some prize this year.
