Woman found guilty of posting online sex ads

09/07/2010 1:51 pm

A 34-year-old woman has been convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of posting sex adverts on a classifieds website on behalf of two unwitting former workmates.

Aishling Madden of Monastery Drive, Clondalkin was found guilty by a jury of nine men and three women on all four counts of defamation and guilty on two counts of publishing material which was grossly offensive, indecent or obscene.

The court heard that Madden was working as a temporary receptionist for consulting company, Accenture, in May 2006. She discovered the CV of another receptionist on a computer and emailed it to herself.

A month later it appeared on the Gumtree website, as part of an ad offering sexual services.

A similar ad containing the name and phone number of a man who worked with the recruitment agency Office Angels also appeared on the website.

The innocent victims of the sex ads received phone calls and emails as a result of Madden’s postings.

Madden pleaded not guilty to all counts charged against her. She claimed other people, whose names she had forgotten, had used her computer.

Judge Patrick McCartan remanded Madden, who lives with her parents, on bail pending sentence at the end of the month. She will be sentenced on 28 July.
