Banned mankinis reduce anti-social behaviour at Cornwall beach.

The clothing attire made famous by Borat has been banned on beaches in Cornwall for being 'inappropriate'.

According to today’s Irish Independent the banning of the mankinis by Cornish police has resulted in the reduction of anti-social behaviour and recorded crime.

Devon and Cornwall Police Superintendent Julie Whitmarsh believes the crackdown has had a very positive effect.

“We have had this consistency of seizing inappropriate items of clothing, sending people home to get changed, and that has worked, it has made a real difference, this 'no-nonsense attitude'," she said.

Julie is obviously not a fan of the skimpy male clothing, describing the mankini as ‘ridiculous’. We will have to agree to disagree on that one we’re afraid.

The Newquay Safe campaign was launched in 2009 to curb anti-social behaviour and reported instances dropped by more than a fifth this summer alone, so the plan appears to be working.

Just a shame it has come at the expense of one of the finer examples of beach fashion.
