Irish horse carriage driver in New York's video disgrace

21/07/2012 5:38 pm

A video has emerged of New York carriage driver from Northern Ireland unleashing a volley of homophobic and racist abuse in New York

The video which from the outset we should warn is full of foul and abusive language shows a carriage driver verbally berating a group of protestors during the Gay Pride weekend and can be seen following this link.

Legendary Tennis star Martina Navratilova has written to the City Council claiming that this level of abuse shows that the Horse and Carriage industry, which is iconic to the Big Apple needs an overhaul and is stuck in the nineteenth century.

Amongst some of the disgraceful abuse on the video is him giving the middle-finger to the protesters and asking “Are you still bribing the politicians, you c**t’s?” before adding “Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little dyke convention. You have a big dyke convention here?”

He also uses a racial slur against a woman as he walks away.

The man who is reportedly from Ireland and has twenty years experience has been disciplined.

A spokesperson for the Horse and Carriage Association told the Irish-American newspaper Irish Central.

“This was definitely a bad moment for us without a doubt, however, the drivers outside Central Park are being subjected to constant campaign of picketing and leafleting

“It needs to be brought to everyone’s attention the thousands of hours of harassment that is focused on us every Saturday and Sunday.”
