Online petition to keep the botched Ecce Homo reaches 20,000 signatures

Last week we heard the news that a Spanish senior citizen mistakenly left her mark on a 19th-century fresco. Well now there's a petition to keep the botched look and it has reached over 20,000 signatures so far.

Sometimes, something old can be given a new lease of life with just a lick of paint. However, as one elderly woman in Spain will now tell you, sometimes you need a steady hand when there’s a paintbrush involved.

Last week the Spanish women in question gave herself the task of restoring the 19th-century fresco Ecce Homo by painter Elias Garcia Martinez, as she felt it had seen better days. However, she botched the job - to say the least - with hilarious consequences.

The finished project might look like something that Mr Bean would put his hand to, but it turns out that there is quite a following for the new look. So much so that there has been a Change.org petition sent to the City Council of Borja asking that the fresco’s new look should be maintained.

So far the site has managed to collect over 20,000 signatures and it only needs another 4,500 to reach its target.

Head on over and give your signature, that’s if you can pry yourself away from Photoshop as you make your third Ecce Homo meme of the day…
