06/08/2012 12:29 pm

A 28-year-old Irishman is up in court in Australia after attacking a politician during a press conference. Here’s what happened.

An unnamed Irish man has been charged with aggravated assault after an unprovoked attack on this Aussie politician. John Elferink was hosting an anti-violence press conference in Darwin when the man appears from behind and seems to strike the politician.

The news report claims it was a case of mistaken identity and that the attacker was drunk. The Irish man was held by the former policeman afte the incident before more men arrive and the attacker eventually escapes.

However, two men were arrested later and one is due back in court in September.

It doesn't look like he hit him. It seems kind of fake looking. I can't quite put my finger on it. A bit bizarre really.
