Video: Three-legged dog caught stealing dog food in New Zealand dairy store

We’ve heard of cat burglars, but up until today we’ve never encountered a dog capable of theft of any kind. Meet Oscar, the three-legged shoplifting dog.

The conniving canine was guilty of the a-paw-ling crime at the Alary Dairy store in Invercargill, rushing in through the door and quickly swiping a pet food roll before making his exit and thinking he was the dog’s bollocks for pulling off such an ingenious and unlikely crime.

Police were reportedly pursuing a number of leads until CCTV footage of the incident was reviewed and identified Oscar as the culprit; apparently not the first time this particular pooch has fallen foul of the law.

Oscar apparently considered refuting the wild allegations and claiming he was the victim of woof justice until he realised that because of the CCTV footage, he didn’t have a leg to stand on.

According to New Zealand’s 3 News, Oscar’s owners had gone on holiday for the week and left him with another family member, but he escaped through some dodgy fencing and made his way to the Dairy Store.

Although they suspected that it wasn’t the first time Oscar made off with goods without paying for them, they found him too adorable to be mad at him for his actions. Puppy love, some might call it.

Oscar was taken to the pound afterwards, but thankfully that doesn't mean there's a sad end to this tail as he will be returned to his owners as soon as they return from their holiday. Given what he's got up to in the past, they’d be barking mad not to keep a closer eye on him from now on.
