If you're renting a house, an apartment or a room anywhere in Ireland at the moment you've probably had a chat with your landlord about increasing your rent.
It's a real pain but if you have a nice set up that suits your lifestyle and work situation then you don't have much of a choice. The fact is that rent is on the up and
Daft.ie have released figures today and they're pretty startling.
Rents around the country have risen by more than 11% in the last 12 months with the national average rent now standing at €933. That's up from €842 last year.
The average increase in Dublin is 14% since the last three months of 2013 and that's despite a slow down in the annual inflation rate.
It's pretty much the same story around the rest of the country with renting climbing. The price in Waterford is up by 5%, Limerick 6%, Galway 7% and Cork 8%. Meath has seen growth of 11%, Wicklow 13% and Kildare 14%.
The big problem is the number of properties available to rent has gone way down with less than 5,400 properties available nationwide on November 1, that's as low as it's been since May 2007.
