A weather and gale warning has been issued as parts of the country will be hit by 'Hurricane Charlie-like weather' today. So be careful of anything that's not nailed to the ground.
If you were around back in 1986 then you may remember the extremely harsh weather the east of the country experienced after Hurricane Charlie rolled into town. Well, we could be in for the same sort of weather today after a weather and gale warning was issued.
According to Met Eireann, south Munster and east Leinster will be the worst affected regions as a combination of high winds, heavy rainfall, abnormally low pressure and high tides will cause the severe and dangerous conditions.
Now, don’t go out trying to dig yourself a hurricane shelter just yet as the weather front heading for the south has been classed as a storm and not quite as a hurricane. Having said that, between 30mm and 50mm of rainfall is expected to fall so flash flooding could be a real possibility.
Road users are being asked to stay extra cautious, as driving conditions will certainly become hazardous as the heavy rain combines with strong winds.
So just be careful out there today, that’s all we’re saying.
