Bomb scares in Stillorgan, Navan and Tallaght

Army bomb disposal teams have had to deal with three separate devices in Tallaght, Navan and Stillorgan in the last 24 hours.

The Defence Forces deployed the army bomb disposal unit in Tallaght last night after Gardai had requested that they investigate a suspicious device in a residential area in Donomore Park at around 12.30am.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the device, which was moved to a military base for further investigation and the area was declared safe by 1am in the early hours of this morning.

In Navan, a 48-year old man was brought to hospital after sustaining injuries in an explosion which occurred outside his home in Beechgrove at around 8am this morning.

The man’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The area has been sealed off for technical examination as the army bomb disposal team were carrying out an investigation on what is believed to be an improvised explosive device.

In Stillorgan this afternoon, meanwhile, a suspicious device was discovered at Stillorgan Shopping Centre and the area has been cordoned off for further investigation.

It is believed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is on its way to the scene. No further information is available at present.
