Another week, another stupid criminal story. This seems to be becoming something of a national trend. We wonder if criminals across the country are just trying to outdo each other in terms of stupid – surely that’s the only way to explain the amount of idiotic crimes taking place.
The Irish Daily Star reports that a drug addict who took a picture of himself on a phone as he was robbing a house has been jailed.
Apparently bungling burglar Jason Glennon was in the middle of robbing a house when he decided to have a mini-photo shoot. He took a few pictures of himself in the act and then continued his burglary before making a quick getaway.
There’s only one problem though – he left the phone that contained the pictures in the house. D'oh!
Now, we don’t know if he is just super-forgetful or what, but leaving a phone with incriminating pictures of yourself at the scene of a crime? That is so stupid there aren’t even words to describe the sheer idiocy of it.
Thankfully Judge Patrick McCartan agrees with this opinion as he sentenced Glennon to seven years in prison. Judge McCartan said that Jason Glennon can’t be too far behind taking the title of Ireland’s stupidest criminal, referring to how another robber was recently described by another judge.
Glennon pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three burglaries in Blanchardstown, Dublin on June 26th last year.
Between robbers stopping for photo shoots and raiders stealing empty cash cassettes from ATMs, the collective IQ of Ireland’s criminals is slowly getting lower and lower as the months pass…
