It sounds like a marketing stunt but it seems that Ireland’s supply of Coca-Cola could run very low this week.
The weather we endure here this summer, and every summer in fairness, is enough to drive you to drink. But if your favourite tipple is Coca-Cola then the weather may just stop you enjoying that too.
According to reports in today’s Sunday Times, flooding in a production plant in Antrim means that Ireland’s supply of the fizzy brown beverage is much lower than normal. Coke’s Knockmore Hill plant in Antrim was affected for four days due to the severe rain that fell at the end of June. That has impacted on stocks of the drink to Ireland, especially the 330ml cans, as some of the plant's production lines were closed and have yet t get back to full capacity.
Some shops and supermarkets are now out of stock and they won’t be restocked until the near the end of the week. We know a few folk who have an addiction to the sugary drink who will be bulk buying the stuff now, just in case.
And if you have a few cans in your fridge you might be able to sell them on for a tidy profit if the drink does dry up.
