First we had a tornado in Bray and now we’ve had an emergency landing in Dublin airport. Is it just us or is Ireland starting to resemble an incredibly low-budget action movie?
Oh…right…so it is just us then…anyway…
The Irish Times reports that an emergency landing took place at Dublin airport this afternoon after a Delta Airline plane requested permission to land at Dublin due to concerns about activity in the cabin. Scary stuff.
But wait, there’s more.
It was also reported that a “suspect device” had been found in the passenger toilet. Oh no!
The Delta 767-300 was en route from Istanbul in Turkey to JFK airport in New York and was parked in an isolated area as soon as it landed. You can only imagine the commotion happening, in fairness, passengers + the words “suspect device” generally don’t go together too well.
Gardaí boarded the plane and spoke to the pilot. They also had a chat with a passenger who came forward after an announcement was made about the reason why the plane had suddenly landed in Ireland and was full of guards.
It turns out that the “suspicious device” was actually, in fact, a mobile phone that had been plugged into a shaving charger in the passenger toilet and left wrapped in its cable (hey, we told you we were starting to resemble a LOW budget action film…)
The emergency was stood down and no arrests were made. It is unknown if the person who owned the mobile phone actually owned up or if they just kept quiet.
We’d probably just keep quiet if it was our phone…
