Irish supporters spent around €80 million to cheer on their Premier League teams last year.

The whopping figures released showed that 174,000 travelled by plane or by boat in 2011 with Old Trafford and Anfield being the top two destinations. The data reveals that Irish fans accounted for one in five fans that visited a Premier League ground.

The Sun reports that in total 900,000 foreign fans attended matches last year generating somewhere in the region of €865 million, with an average spend of €962 per fan. This figure takes into account long-distance travel from North America and Asia, but the average spend for an Irish fan would be roughly half.

While Man Utd and Liverpool would have strong fan bases in Ireland, it would appear that Man City still have a lot of catching up to do. They may be the Premier League champions, but are 8th on the list of most popular stadiums in England for Irish supporters, trailing Goodison and Wembley among others.
