HMV stores to re-open with €4 million investment and 100 jobs created

There has been a great boost on the jobs front with the news that several HMV stores are to re-open after receiving financial investment from recovery specialist Hilco. It is reported that it will set the company back in the region of €3.5 to €4 million to re-open the stores in what will be music to the ears of entertainment fans throughout the country. There was widespread disappointment when the iconic stores were forced to close and now the shops in Henry Street, Liffey Valley, Dundrum Centre in Dublin and Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick, with a fifth to be added over the summer. The Irish Independent reports that more than 100 jobs will be created as a result of the investment with recruitment to start in the next week. “It will take around six weeks, some stores have to be refitted, but Henry Street is ready to go,” Hilco founder and chief executive Paul McCowan told the paper. Hilco recently bought HMV from its administrators in the UK for €60m and they are looking into the possibility of opening the stores in Cork and Galway, not to mention the outlet on Grafton Street. Great news all round.
