You may know the Irish extreme runner Richard Donovan, well his eight-year-old daughter is now the youngest person to have ever stood at the North Pole and she’s only the youngest by one day.
Jaimie Donovan is now the youngest person to have ever stood at the North Pole and it’s all because her dad, Richard, brought her up there to see what he does for a living.
Richard is an extreme distance runner (ultra runner) and he previously completed a trip that saw him conquer seven marathons in five days on seven different continents. He has been hosting an Arctic marathon up at the North Pole for the past ten years and this year he thought he better bring the wife and kids.
Eight-year-old Jaimie had to brave temperatures of -26C to get to the North Pole and she only beat the previous youngest person to the pole by one single day.
"It was cold and the helicopter was noisy," Jaimie said after arriving back on solid ground. "I loved the North Pole and I want to go back."
Alicia Hempleman-Adams, the daughter of British adventurer David Hempleman-Adams, previously set the record back in 1998. As she was born on November 8 1989, she stood at the geographic North Pole aged eight years and 173 days on May 1, 1998.
However, Jaimie, the Irish youngster, was born on October 17 2003, which means she beat the record by just one day as she was aged eight years and 172 days when she stood by the pole.
The only thing that’s left for the Donovan family to do now is to apply to the Guinness World Records and they’ll then have two record breakers in the family.
