The Irish brogue has been voted the second sexiest accent in the world, according to a new survey carried out by travel website Hotels.com.
This is brilliant news, especially if your accent is less ‘lovely lilt’ and more ‘bring in the cows.’
The Irish Daily Star reports that the Irish accent, which has been glamorised by the likes of Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson, just barely beat some stiff competition from the sultry Spanish way with words, to claim second place.
But who got the top spot? According to the survey 1 in 5 people voted the Italian accent as the most attractive sounding dialect in the world. Which is fair enough as Italian sounds a hell of a lot sexier when whispered in the ear than some broken Irish.
So we have some of the best but what about the worst?
Wales came last in the league table of international accents with only 0.3 per cent of people polled saying that they found the Welsh lilt appealing – this must be why Steve Jones recently got axed from the US X Factor.
Other countries which lost out were Scotland and Turkey, with their accents only garnering 1 and 2 per cent of the overall votes respectively. We bet Sean Connery is weeping in a dark corner somewhere as we write this.
What do you think? Were we robbed or do we deserve the title of second best?
