Male Thong shortage in Cork fails to derail World Record attempt
The Olympics may be on, but the most important world record that was broken today was in Cork as the rebel county beat the world-body painting record this afternoon.
This pivotal moment in the nation’s history nearly didn’t happen as a grave shortage in male thongs being sold in Cork City centre almost prevented the record being broke.
Over 300 people beat the previous Guinness world-record held by the United States by getting fully stripped down to their underwear and getting body-painted.
It could have been Cork’s darkest of days though as last minute applicants cleared out all the shops in Cork of male thongs, that were required by Guinesses strict rules.
According to the Irish Examiner today only Utopia, an adult shop in the city centre, had any left. A spokesperson saying “My phone’s been constantly ringing and I only have two or three pairs of thongs left at this stage. I would order more in, but there wouldn’t be time.”
It was also reported that the organisers had issued a Facebook warning, saying: “Men’s thongs have sold out in Cork. Some people are saying they are wearing jockstraps. You could also wear a woman’s thong (just make sure it’ll hold you in) or you could wear Y-fronts.”
The rebel county has overcome many odds in the past though and we’re pleased to report that after getting started at 8am the world record was beaten at Cork’s Camden Palace Hotel late this afternoon.
The participants are now enjoying the Cork Annual Naked Cycle to celebrate as you can see in the pic below.
