Gardaí in Athenry have launched an investigation after a man turned up at the Galway Clinic suffereing what are believed to be gunshot wounds to the leg.
Gardaí were called out to a disturbance at a house in the Fernhill area of the Galway town Athenry shortly after 9pm last night.
They discovered extensive damage to the property and some time later, in what is believed to have been a related incident, a 31-year-old Lithuanian man attended the Galway Clinic.
The man had suffered injuries to his leg which a Garda statement said "are believed be bullet wounds".
He was later transferred to University College Hospital Galway where his condition is described as not life threatening.
Gardaí would like to establish the identity and present whereabouts of the occupants of the house who are described as Lithuanian Nationals.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact the incident room at Galway Garda Station at 091-538000.
