Last March was one of the coldest the country has experienced since we started keeping record, which isn’t much of a surprise really, is it?

We only started keeping in-depth records of Ireland’s weather back in 1942, but for many places across the country, the last 30 days have been some of the coldest ever experienced.

According to new info published by Met Éireann, temperatures were 3C below what we would consider a “normal temperature” for this time of year.

The coldest temperature recorded last month was -7.6C in Markree, Co Sligo, while the highest recorded temperature during the month was a surprising 14.3C in Athenry, Co Galway - which was well for some.

The newly released figures also show that it was a dark and dull month in the capital as we went a whole week with just two hours of sunshine in total.

We think that sums up the month of March fairly well. Roll on April.
