There's one main thing you shouldn't do around a Jewish person and that's compare their actions to those of Nazi Germany. They don't like it. Someone should've told Luke Flanagan.
Luke was getting his back up about cutting turf on raised bogs again in the Dáil yesterday when he let slip that the Government's actions were like those of the Nazis.
Rather predictably Minister Shatter, who's Jewish, took exception to the comments and has demanded an apology. Shatter labelled Ming an 'ignorant buffoon' and said that he should educate himself and examine his conscience.
The acrimonious encounter happened during the Defence Minister's question time yesterday afternoon. Ming made a remark that: "they had laws in Nazi Germany, too, but thank God some people broke them".
Despite being called on to withdraw the comments Ming refused, saying: "I stand by what I said. There are times when responsible citizens break the law in the name of justice."
When the scrapping boys were leaving the chamber, Ming turned to Shatter and said: "Do you want to throw something else at me, you coward?"
