It’s difficult enough to impress on a first date, now we have the added burden of avoiding the pitfalls of bad texting.
By Brian Moss
The Sun this morning reports on the results from a survey which reveals that three in ten singletons admitted they’d dump a potential lover simply because they have the wrong ‘textual’ chemistry-if that’s not depressing we don’t know what is
According to the survey one of the major text no no’s is bad spelling. Predictive texting has a lot to answer for here and we’ve all heard of the guy who texted the fact that he got a ‘great BJ for lunch’ to his missus (BLT in predicitive text is BJ, go on try it). Abbreviations like g8t and l8r are top of the list here and the old chestnut LOL causes major annoyance.
Double texting, that’s when you fire off a second message too quickly without waiting for a reply, is also to be avoided - a quick note here, when you’re at the dating stage any evidence that you’re a bit premature with anything is best to steer clear of!
One word messages and using ‘smiley’ faces were also listed as a poor ‘textiquette’.
The poll, which took in the opinions of over 2,200 single adults, tell us that fourteen and a half minutes is the average time a single person will take to create the perfect message to send to the person their attempting to impress. If that fails it only takes about a minute to text one of those late night friend hotlines you may have seen advertised on TV.
So get the message men of Ireland, text right and at the very least text the right person, we’ll let one of our favourite comedians David O'Doherty explain why. LOL
