Christmas and New Year’s is the time of year for the showcase event in darts and the World Championship’s seem to be capturing the imagination.

Sid Waddell may no longer be around to give us dramatic commentary but that has not dampened the spirits at the Ally Pally and we are in for mouth-watering clash on Sunday when 15-time world champion Phil Taylor takes on Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld for a place in the final.
The catchy song, carnival atmosphere and Sky Sports hype all add to the drama of the World Championships and journalist Marie Crowe has been clearly keeping a close eye on events at the Alexandra Palace.
Marie was on the road today when she came to the toll-booth at Portlaoise. With the toll price of €1.80, the temptation was just too great to resist and the cashier was treated to a warm response.
