Ricky Gervais is bringing The Office's David Brent back just for Comic Relief

By Genna Patterson

Comedian, actor and writer Ricky Gervais has agreed to bring back his most famous character, David Brent from The Office. He has a good cause too – for Comic Relief on March 15. Gervais has released a video showing Brent ‘suiting up’ for the gig, which then links to a short clip of what Brent has been up to.

David Brent was last seen in a Christmas special of The Office in 2003, and Series Two ended over ten years ago. Brent has also featured in two episodes of The US Office.

If you click on the link at the end of the video, it will bring you to another video – clips of a documentary about Brent. He tells the documentary team that he uses sales-repping as a "cash cow" to fund his other endeavours, like music.

He is now signing musical acts to share his expertise with. He even wrote a reggae song called ‘Equality Street’ to perform with his act Dom Johnson. Brent can be seen strumming his guitar and singing the song much to the dislike of his artist Johnson.

Gervais told The Sun newspaper; “I thought it was time to revisit my most famous comedy creation to find out what he's been up to for the last decade.” He added; "He is passing on his wisdom to younger would-be rock stars now. Well, really he is trying to worm his way back into rock and roll.”

Gervais already tweeted a promotional picture of himself and Johnson beside a road sign reading, “ Equality Street.” He wrote: “Retweet if you'd like to see the finished video of David Brent's political reggae song "Equality Street”

Gervais said, "Fans of The Office will be excited to know we finally get to hear the whole of ‘The Serpent Who Guards the Gates of Hell’."

Tune into Comic Relief on March 15 if you want to see more. We definitely do.
