We’re not 100 per cent sure on the rules about bareback horseriding on Irish roads, but surely the red light rules still apply?
A quick look at the Citizens Information website tells us that: If you wish to ride your horse on a public road, you may do so provided that the horse has a licence, is fitted with a bridle and is under the control of someone over 16 years of age.
As far as we can see, this horse spotted on the streets of Limerick today does have a bridle, the rider is probably over 16 and we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt about the licence. And with no mention of a saddle in the rules we guess this is all above board, if a little rough on the old meat and two veg.
But breaking a red light is a bad idea whether you are on a horse, on a bike or in a car. Very naughty behavior indeed.
Cheers to Eddie Hurst for the video...
