Irishmen and Irishwomen, this effects us all...
The Taoiseach has announced that the government are in the stages of drafting a new Proclamation of Independence to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 rising.
Kenny was speaking with reporters this afternoon and revealed that drafting a new proclamation is just one of the initiatives that the government have planned to mark the centenary.
More plans are set to be revealed later at a gathering in Collins' Barracks.
The Taoiseach met various reporters this afternoon, transcribed by
Breakingnews, and has said, "what we want to do out of the
series of commemorative events is right across the country, engage our people – young and not so young – both in their reflections on the Proclamation, [and] on the drafting of a new proclamation … a whole series of issues in the Irish language, in culture, in music, in literature."
Naturally, there have been a few dissenting voices regarding these plans on redrafting an iconic piece of Irish legislation and history.
It seems that many are questioning the merits of tinkering such a famous document that was originally read out by Padraig Pearse on the steps of the G.P.O.
