Great news: Unemployment in Ireland is at its lowest level since 2008

The figure fell almost 40,000 from the same month last year.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that the level of unemployment in Ireland continues to fall and is now at its lowest level since the end of 2008.

CSO figures revealed that the current seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Ireland is 7.8%, down on the figure of 7.9% from April, with 1,500 people finding jobs in Ireland in the last month.

There are currently 169,700 people unemployed in Ireland, but significantly, that figure is down 38,300 from May of last year and Ireland’s unemployment rates compare favourably to the Eurozone average of 10.2%.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rating is down for both males (9.2%) and females (6.2%) in Ireland compared to May 2015, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for those in the 15-24 age bracket (youth unemployment) currently stands at 15%.
