Here’s what the weekend weather forecast looks like

Start making your plans

Paul Moore

Start making your plans.

Much like the inevitability of awful Christmas jumpers or a toy not working on the Late Late Toy Show, the weekend forecast has a particularly depressing feel to it and here’s what’s expected.

The nice (and never wrong) people at Met Éireann are saying that today is expected to be cold and windy with some rain and drizzle this morning, heavy in places. That’s just the standard line at this stage, isn’t it?

It doesn’t get much better this afternoon though because colder and more showery weather is expected to spread from the Atlantic. If you’re living in any of the more northern counties then hail or sleet is likely, with a little wet snow on northern hills later.

If you’re heading out for a few drinks tonight rather than watching the Toy Show then bring an umbrella with you because it’s expected to rain throughout the night.

I’m afraid that things don’t look any better for Saturday with expected gale force and gusty southwesterly winds, veering westerly in the afternoon and evening. There’s going to be widespread rain in the morning and early afternoon, heavy in places. But things take a more showery turn later.

Netflix and chill day?

Continuing this trend of s**t weather for the weekend, Sunday morning will be very wet (why wouldn’t it be?), windy and blustery, with strong to gale force and gusty southwest winds.

Take note though because there’s a risk of some flooding in places, so be careful on the roads and plan ahead.

There’s further bad news if you live in Munster and south Leinster because persistent rain is expected over that part of the country, with some sleet possible on high ground elsewhere.

All in all, the weather looks absolutely crap so stay indoors with a duvet, tea and TV.
