Ireland could have its first same-sex marriages as soon as October 2015

The May referendum coming into practice imminently

Colm Boohig

Today is a big day for same-sex marriages.

The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald will, today, start the process of putting Ireland’s historic May referendum into law.

Legislation will be brought before the Cabinet, following President Michael D. Higgins’ update of the Constitution last month.

It will take just a few weeks before the legislation will reach the Dáil floor, after which same-sex marriage will officially be legal and good to go in Ireland.

Roll on October.

Yes Equality Marriage

Just in case you forgot, Ireland approved marriage equality by 62% back in May, making us the first nation in the world to do so by public vote.
