Ireland to appeal the EU’s ruling on Apple tax

It's been decided at a meeting of the cabinet today that Ireland will appeal the European Commission's ruling on Apple's tax payments to Ireland. The commission ruled this week that Apple must pay Ireland €13 billion in back taxes after a sweetheart deal was struck between the state and the tech company. https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/771676887168999424 The deal meant that Apple paid just 0.005% on earnings in Ireland in 2014. The cabinet met today to discuss their options and it was agreed that an appeal would be launched against the EU Commission's ruling that Ireland had supplied illegal state aid to Apple worth €13 billion. The Dáil will be recalled next week to pass a government motion backing the appeal. Labour and Fianna Fail have both indicated their support for an appeal of the EU's judgement.
