Ireland’s oldest man passed away on Sunday night.

Michael Lambert was born on October 5, 1907, in Ballymoe Co. Galway, the same year that the Marconi transatlantic wireless telegraphy service opened between Galway and Canada.

Mr Lambert became Ireland’s oldest man last November following the death of Mr Luke Dolan, who was aged 108 and also from Roscommon.

According to RTÉ, Mr Lambert and his wife had ten children and 22 grandchildren and were married for more than 60 years.

He was a big GAA fan and he was present in Croke Park the last time Roscommon won the All-Ireland final, which was way back in 1944.

He passed away on Sunday at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
