Irish Rail announce new Cork-Dublin daily express service to start next week

Travel between two of the country's biggest cities is about to get a lot easier.

From next Monday (May 25 onwards) Irish Rail will operate a non-stop express service between Cork and Dublin that will have travellers from the south in the big smoke with time to spare before breakfast. Irish Rail yesterday announced a new daily (Monday-Friday) service that will leave Cork's Kent Station at 6:15am and arrive at Heuston Station in Dublin at 8:30am, a travelling time of two hours and 15 minutes. The new service is being introduced following customer research, which identified a demand for a faster morning service arriving in Dublin at 08.30am to facilitate business meeting needs and we'd imagine, Cork people who want to get an extra night at home at the weekends. The new service will be the only non-stop service of its type on the national network and will offer customers free wifi and charge points for phones at every seat. The following changes will be implemented to a number of Irish Rail services as a result; have a look to below to see if your journey will be affected.

• 06.00hrs Cork to Dublin Heuston (Mon-Sat) will now depart at 05.55hrs, and operate 5 to 10 minutes earlier throughout.
• 04.55hrs Tralee to Mallow (Mon only) will now depart at 04.50hrs, and operate 5 to 8 minutes earlier throughout.
• 05.15hrs Westport to Dublin Heuston will now depart at 05.25hrs, and operate 6 to 10 minutes later throughout.
• 08.09hrs Newbridge to Dublin Heuston will now depart at 08.11hrs, and operate 2 minutes later throughout.
• 06.55hrs Athlone to Dublin Heuston (Sat only) will now depart at 07.05hrs and operate between 6 and 10 minutes later throughout.
