Rest in peace

Carl Kinsella

A true legend of Irish cinema.

Maureen O’Hara, best known for her performance in the Academy Award-winning film The Quiet Man, has died at the age of 95.

A statement from the family disclosed that the actress died peacefully and surrounded by her family, while listening to the music of The Quiet Man, her favourite film.

While she may not be well-known younger audiences, she was beloved by audiences of her own generation, and the tributes have already begun rolling in on Twitter.

Below is a wonderful video wherein she explains her refusal to swear allegiance to the British crown in 1946, and discusses how proud she was to be Irish.

May she rest in peace.
