Two 48-hour work stoppages.
SIPTU served notice today of two 48-work stoppages planned by Luas drivers for the month of February.
On an average day, the Luas serves 90,000 commuters who will be looking for a lift for four days of next month. The stoppages are scheduled for Thursday 11 and Friday 12 of February, as well as the following Thursday and Friday.
In a statement made on their Facebook page today, SIPTU said that “In talks over the last 18 months, Transdev has failed to offer an increase in pay for the next five years to LUAS workers." The workers are believed to be seeking an increase of roughly 50%.
SIPTU's Utilities and Construction Division Organiser Owen Reidy laid the blame at the feet of Transdev, who operate the Luas rail system, saying: “Rather than enter into serious negotiations the management of Transdev today decided to release a statement to the media that attempts to demonise LUAS workers."
