Video: Bus narrowly misses baby on roadway

Bus driver Mike Hubbard narrowly escaped running over a baby girl who was sitting in the middle of a busy road.

Quick thinking Mike pulled the bus to a halt mere seconds before the girl would have been hit. Mike thought she was a dog at first and sounded his horn to move it.

To his horror he realized the creature was actually a baby and he pulled the vehicle to a stop. If it wasn’t caught on the camera on the front of the bus, would anyone believe it?

"I was definitely in shock," Mike conceded afterwards.

Moments after Mike stopped and checked the infant was okay, the baby’s father ran out, picked her up and walked away without so much as a thank you.

The infant has since been identified as Destiny Flores, a young girl who is now the subject of a custody battle due to the events. Destiny's mother Catherine Gonzalez, 25, and her husband are fighting to keep their children, claim it was just an unfortunate accident.

Mrs. Gonzalez said the youngsters were in the living room watching TV and she had no idea Destiny had escaped until she heard the horn and a screeching sound as the bus braked.

“It was just an accident, that's all it was. It's not like we weren't paying attention, you know. I could have swore all my kids were in the back watching TV and they were doing fine,” she added.
